Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the belief that there are points on the feet – reflexes – that correspond to organs and systems within the body. By stimulating these reflexes with light pressure it is aimed to restore balance. Reflexology does not diagnose, nor offer a cure for medical conditions but is a therapy designed to activate the body’s own healing powers.
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing and nurturing treatment and many people like to have it for this reason alone. It can also be helpful for conditions such as hypertension, depression, stress & insomnia. The clearing and balancing effects of reflexology make it particularly helpful for such things as digestive disorders and sinus congestions etc.
For women: Problems related to hormonal imbalance such as PMS, menopausal symptoms, and the distress caused by them respond particularly well to reflexology. Reflexology may be helpful for certain infertility problems and difficulties conceiving in women. It aims to balance and improve the hormonal environment for conception, stimulate secretion of and balance levels of oestrogen and progesterone, stimulate ovulation, improve blood supply to the reproductive organs, as well as inducing deep relaxation and de-stressing.
During the initial consultation I will take details of your medical history and lifestyle. The treatment is carried out, fully clothed apart from the feet. I will apply pressure to each of the reflex points one foot at a time. All movements are repeated three times to ensure an accurate response is received from the reflex areas. Any discomfort felt may indicate some imbalance in the corresponding area of the body. The treatment is completed by a relaxing foot massage. After the treatment, I will note the areas which gave a positive reflex response. If specific problems are involved a series of sessions are usually necessary for the maximum impact. If this is the case, I will monitor the positive reflexes to see if a pattern is occurring. Many people like to have regular monthly sessions to keep their bodies in good working order.
